Day 2 in Arles

Even though we had a long and tiring journey yesterday, everyone couldn’t be more excited for what today had in store for us. Some were so excited that they woke up early in the morning to go for a quick swim in the pool and to exercise! On the other hand, most of us headed straight to the lovely breakfast the hotel, Domaine Le Sauvage, had prepared for us. And just like that, we were ready to begin our day at LUMA!

Shortly after arriving at LUMA’s tower, the director, Mr. Mustapha Bouhayati, welcomed us with a speech. He described Arles’ fascinating history and told us about the nonprofit organisation LUMA. We learned about their causes and concepts. We were then divided into two groups and were toured around the building. We looked over Arles from the building’s rooftop. The brave ones of the group went down the famous slide inside the building. We visited their permanent installations, and some of their exhibits notably “Constellations”. It features the works of American photographer, Diane Arbus.

For lunch, we had a vegetarian dining experience at one of LUMA’s restaurants, Le RĂ©fectoire.

Afterwards, it was time to visit the Dior photo exhibit— Le prix Dior de la photographie et des arts visuels pour jeunes talents. Our class then participated in a workshop inspired by the exhibit. We had about 20 minutes to take photos and transfer them onto tote bags using a special technic. Now we each have a special souvenir to take home with us!

Back at Le Sauvage, our priority was spending quality time together. Everyone took a plunge in the pool, went to dinner at the Mazet, and enjoyed the rest of the night chatting, playing games, and chilling.

We’ll see you again tomorrow!
