Day 3 in Arles

In the morning, we had to wake up quite early since we had to left our domaine at eight. Some of us were tired but the sunrise was really beautiful.

Arriving at LUMA we were split up in two groups. One started with a city tour of Arles. We learned about Arles’s history and explored several places. First we visited the cryptoportics and the cathedral of Saint-Trophisme of Arles then we went inside ancient Theater and Arles Arena.

The village is also known for some famous masterpieces drawn by Vincent Van Gogh. We had the chance to visit the origin places of those paintings, a bit of history behind Vincent story and paintings and observe the differences that changed since Van Gogh’s times.

We had lunch in La Forge at LUMA. It was a delicious vegan meal.

In the afternoon we received a workshop in the Luma foundation about an alternative plastic. With the help of a recipe we mixed a completely biodegradable fiber. The ingredients finish in a fluid paste and are formed by a printer on a plate. After drying out the form is hard and stable. The alternatives to plastics are fascinating. Part of the product are made from plant waste.

We ended up doing a presentation to compare our different works. The debrieving helped discovering the advantages and disadvantages of the different materials. It was an enriching experience to discover the eco-responsible materials of the future.

In the end, we enjoyed an excellent meal at Luma. We then took the car back to Le Sauvage, ready for tomorrow!
